What difference does Ghz make when buying a cordless phone?

I need to buy a new cordless phone. I'm confused with the different amounts of Ghz they offer. I'm trying to be cost effective so I don't want to spend more for a 7.8 Ghz if the 5.8 Ghz is about the same.
