Cordless Phone Info

Cordless phones allow people to enjoy moving about the house while talking on the phone. Batteries power the handsets used to talk, and at some point, those batteries run out. Good batteries mean this happens less frequently, so it’s important to select a good battery.

Older phones use NiCad (or nickel cadmium) batteries. The drawback of this battery is that it has a memory, meaning that over time the life of the charge decreases.

Newer phones use NiMH (nickel-metal hydride). This type of battery doesn’t have the memory problems of NiCad, and are more environmentally-friendly.

If your older phone has a NiCad battery, it might be worthwhile to upgrade your phone instead of just replacing the battery.

Batteries are sold on the manufacturer’s website, or other online battery retailers. Off-brand batteries work as well as name brand, so don’t be afraid to save money by buying off-brand.

If you want to extend the life of your battery and get the best performance, let the handset battery run out before recharging. If you’re worried about getting caught with a failing battery in the middle of a call, you can always get a second handset if your model allows for it.
