Digital or Analog?
There are several different types of cordless phones available in today’s market. They are known as analog, digital, and digital spread spectrum.
If price is your greatest concern, the analog phone tends to be the least expensive option. Analog signals are generally good and allow for some range of movement. Analog technology has its drawbacks, including increased signal interference the further away from the base station, and decreased security in comparison to its digital competitors.
Digital cordless phones do cost more than analog phones. Digital phones transmit stronger signals than analog phones, and the security is tighter. Digital cordless phones are able to use different channels, meaning that when the phone detects interference, it will switch automatically.
Digital spread spectrum takes cordless technology to the next level. It works by spreading the sound across multiple frequencies. With improved technology, there is a bigger price tag, and consumers will find that digital spread spectrum is more expensive than either analog or digital. However, the benefits are clear: greater range, clearer sound, and heightened security.
